did dj come up and try to swat it from behind on this play? did bassett really move farther away as it appears? isn't lance stemler actually where he should be, yet a little too far to get to the back-door burner? it looks to me like either crawford or bassett should have jumped out and tried to draw the charge (they are both in perfect position for it). it looks like dj white should have used that wingspan and attempted to block it from behind, which we all know he is very capable of (how many fouls did he have?). it looks like stemler was a little too far from the play and would have just picked up a reahing-in foul had he tried anything. they all need to be more aggressive on defense and do what stemler and suhr did all last year (draw the charge), or in dj's position, at least try to block the shot.

The problem isn't necessarily with DJ getting burned. Having seen a practice, he seemed to be doing what KS wanted. But if you notice from picture 5 to 6 there was no collapse on the cutter. In fact, whoever is standing in the middle of the key in #5 (I can't tell from the picture) actually seems to be farther from the ball in #6. Of course, helping in that way means that a man will be left open, but an uncontested 3 is better than an uncontested layup any day.

Come on now-- this article is just silly-- do you really think that anyone reading on here is thinking "what is a back-door cut?". Maybe some pictures would help.

Moreover, the article is titled, "Defending the back door cut" but offers nothing on why this cut was open (e.g., was D.J. out of position or was was he told to deny the ball reversal as IU often did last year) and how IU intends to defend it(e.g. is DJ not supposed to follow his man past the ball when moving away from the basket or was he supposed to rely on backside help)....
