Can anyone say Mandeville…The kid only average 0.8 pts/game last year. The good news is that with the White twins back, Eli, and DeAndre we finally have a front line…and I’m pretty sure he was thinking about all of that Pine Time. He is outa here.

I played small college basketball and coached high school basketball and maybe at age 36 I am out of touch with how basketball works now….BUT at what point did any coach besides KS try to teach this 6′11 kid how to play post. For crying outloud, having a jumpshot is great but you are still 6′11 right?

Is it just me or am I missing something these days……Ben Allen is a post at IU, St.Mary, and anywhere else in the world.

I liked him as a freshman, but last year I didn’t get the sense that he was really improving very much. You never want to see anyone leave the program, but if he’s going to get the chance to play more elsewhere, I really can’t blame him.

Unfortunate news. However, I can’t blame him, because there wasn’t going to be much playing time for Ben Allen with all of our options in the post now. And we all know he wasn’t going to find time at a position outside of the paint, though that’s where he probably prefers to play.

This also gives us yet another scholarship option for next year, if this ends up becoming true. We should find out pretty soon, with the team getting to practice for that vacation to the Bahamas.

Nice two shirt comment. I do disagree somewhat with the handling of Big BA…I think a coaches job is to put the team in the best position to win and develope a player at the same time. We had enough 3pt shooters and shooting last year, that adding BA just wasn’t what we needed. We needed another big man in the middle. Yes BA has a nice shot, but he is 6′11 and at some point in his career he needs to learn the post. He could have helped this year and I hope he changes his mind cause St. Mary’s is a very strict school and has a strict ONE SHIRT policy!

I think Ben Allen’s mishandling is the one lingering mistake from Kelvin’s first year. I understand that Sampson needed more post help last year, but KS literally destroyed Allen’s psyche (which was soft to begin with, but still) and totally confused him about his role on the court. I’m not saying Allen should have had free reign to play whatever position he wanted — he’s 6 freakin’ 11, after all — but a little flexibility from Sampson last year might have preserved Allen as a versatile offensive threat, and a great role player for this year’s postseason potential.
